Description

It is common for women, especially black women, to develop fibroids in their lifetime. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumours that grow on the smooth surface of the uterus. The actual cause of fibroids is still unknown, but they are commonly found in women of reproductive age group. This is because the hormones responsible for a woman’s menstrual cycle promote the growth of fibroids. Although fibroids are not cancerous, as they grow, they can cause a woman to experience various symptoms, such as heavy flow during menstruation, anaemia, low back pain, increased abdominal enlargement, pain during sex, frequency in urination, and may even cause infertility if they obstruct the fallopian tube.
